Job Summary
Library Officer is responsible for providing efficient and effective frontline services by undertaking customer service duties at the library circulation desk and Customer Service Center, general administrative support, and assisting with Library programs in the University.
Primary Duties & Responsibilities
- Helps students and faculty to find and use library resources such as reference materials, audio-visual equipment, computers, and other electronic resources and provides technical assistance when needed.
- Works collaboratively with other subject selectors, faculty, and students on collection development activities by selecting electronic databases, serials, books, and other formats.
- Reviews subject matter of materials to be classified and selects classification numbers and headings according to classification systems.
- Reviews and evaluates book reviews by using materials, catalogs, faculty recommendations, and current holdings to select and order print, audio-visual, and electronic resources.
- Searches standard reference materials, including online sources and the internet to answer students' and faculties' reference questions.
- Organizes collections of books, publications, documents, audio-visual aids and other reference materials for convenient access.
- Addresses the learning, teaching, and research needs of faculty and students and keep up to date with professional activities and trends affecting librarianship.
- Participates in general and specialized reference and research services, as well as providing in-depth consultation with faculty and students in liaison colleges.
- Develops, conducts, and assesses library collection and instruction for relevant areas to incorporate online information resources into managed groups, rights management, payment, and control.
- Serves as library liaison to colleges, which offer curricular programs ranging from undergraduate through the master.
- Provides proactive support for research and scholarly communication to students and faculty when necessary.
- Keeps up-to-date records of circulation and materials, maintains inventory, and corrects cataloging errors.
- Processes print and non-print library materials to prepare them for inclusion in library collections.
- Performs all duties in a professional, effective, and confidential manner.
- Performs all other related duties as required or assigned by the manager.
Education
- Bachelor’s degree in library science or equivalent from an accredited institute.
Professional Experience
- Minimum of two (2) years of experience working an academic library setting or related fields
