Overview

Job Summary

The Library Specialist is responsible for assisting students, faculty, and staff with library reference services, instruction, and research. This includes creating online tutorials and self-guided library instruction modules, providing one-on-one research meetings, and actively participating in the library collection development. He/She helps users navigate the library databases, streaming audio and video, library catalog, electronic books, and other features on the library homepage. Additionally, the specialist is responsible for developing, evaluating, and maintaining the library collection and serving as a library liaison in the assigned discipline department.

Primary Duties & Responsibilities

  • Assists in formulating scheduling rotations of the interns, sharing updated list of each hospital with the Internship Director/and delegated official personnel.
  • Plans, implements, and evaluates library services of the assigned section; recommends and take appropriate action.
  • Participates in fulfilling library-wide goals and implementing policies and writes annual, monthly, and special reports.
  • Interprets goals and policies to subordinate staff and to patrons and individuals outside of the library
  • Works with library administration and section staff to develop and coordinate community partnerships for the assigned service section.
  • Serves as library liaison to colleges, which offer curricular programs ranging from undergraduate through graduate
  • Participates in the selection and training of subordinate staff and professionals
  • Participates in general and specialized reference and research services, as well as providing in-depth consultation with faculty and students in liaison colleges;
  • Monitors maintenance and other section needs and works with Library administration to achieve needed repairs and improvement
  • Maintains of the library collections and electronic resources through liaison with academic staff, students and research personnel, and instructional training sessions to promote the usage of these collections
  • Represents the Library at meetings, conferences, presentations, and workshops
  • Enforces University Library policies, ensure safety of students, staff, faculty, and library visitors; resolve customer complaints.
  • Performs all duties in a professional, effective, and confidential manner.
  • Performs all other related duties as required or assigned by the manager.

Education & Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in library science or equivalent from an accredited institute.
  • Minimum of four (4) years of experience working in an academic library setting or related fields.
